Red carpet fashion trends are constantly changing and yet celebrities almost always follow the basics of smart fashion and good personal instincts in choosing what to wear to special events. The fact is that celebrities are always marketing themselves and appearance speaks volumes.

One of the biggest fashion trends for women is the return to wearing white. Many of the designer gowns that celebrities are wearing to red carpet events this season are designed in white – the whiter, the better. It is a basic, simple and clean look that does justice to most women. The dazzle can be added with the right shoes and accessories.

Another trend may be the reappearance of women wearing men’s styles – black slacks, white shirt, jacket and tie set off with appropriate heels and handbag. While it has made the rounds on the red carpet before, it is an interesting look.

Beyond these two obvious trends the long standing focus and discussion on who looks good or bad in what they are wearing continues. It is interesting to note that there is rarely consensus on what a celebrity looks good – or terrible – wearing.

It clearly comes down to the celebrity’s style choices and there are some celebrities who consistently get it right and some who consistently get it wrong. Ultimately a celebrity uses what she wears to a red carpet event to make a style statement about herself. The smart ones make conservatively stylish selections that flatter their bodies and present them as assured and classy. The classic look never goes out of style.

Bolder trend choices are controversial, tricky and more difficult to successfully pull off. The design must nail the physical look and personality of the person wearing it.
